Call for Low Power Designs

The International Symposium on Low Power Electronics and Design (ISLPED) is organizing the International Low Power Design Contest to provide a forum for showcasing design approaches and system solutions that advance power and energy efficiency. The contest aims to encourage innovative, design-oriented approaches to power reduction from both academic and industrial contributors.

Accepted power-aware design submissions will be invited to present at ISLPED 2026 in a demo session dedicated to the Low Power Design Contest. The 2-page abstract for each accepted demo will also be published in the IEEE/ACM conference proceedings, unless the authors explicitly request otherwise.

Submission guidelines

Eligibility

We invite submissions of original designs developed in academia or industry. Designs previously submitted to the ISLPED Design Contest are not eligible. Designs that have received awards in other contests may still be submitted, but they will not be eligible for the ISLPED Design Contest Award. Designs completed before January 1, 2024 are not eligible. Submissions related to regular papers submitted to ISLPED 2026, or to papers published in other conferences on or after January 1, 2024, are also welcome. In such cases, authors must include a reference to the corresponding paper in the demo abstract.

Demo abstract submission

A 2-page demo abstract is required and must be submitted by the deadline. The abstract should follow the format of a regular ISLPED conference paper and include: (1) a project title beginning with “Demo Abstract:”, (2) a 60-word abstract, (3) a description of the design, and (4) a plan for the live demonstration at the conference venue. The 2-page abstract for each accepted demo will also be published in the IEEE/ACM conference proceedings, unless the authors explicitly request otherwise. Authors who already have a manuscript submitted to ISLPED 2026 may submit that manuscript for consideration without shortening it to 2 pages. If the submission is accepted, however, a 2-page demo abstract must still be provided for inclusion in the proceedings.

Submission content

Submissions may include, but are not limited to, proof of implementation such as silicon chips, boards, system photographs, and software. Entries focused solely on optimization techniques or algorithms, or based only on tools or simulations without an actual implementation, are not suitable for the contest. However, submissions on open-source tool development with a focus on power-aware design are welcome. Each submission should clearly describe the originality and distinguishing features of the design, along with measured power, energy, and performance metrics. It should also highlight the design’s power and energy targets, as well as the specific optimization techniques, design choices, and tradeoffs used to achieve them.

Presentation and judging

Selected designs will be presented during a demo session at the symposium. An in-person demonstration is mandatory. The Design Contest Award will be determined based on the quality of the live demonstration and presentation.

Registration discount

The presenting author of each selected design will be eligible for a 50% discount on the registration fee. Please note that regular ISLPED papers still require at least one full registration per paper.

Manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the ISLPED submission website.

  • The submission deadline is May 25, 2026 (AoE, Anywhere on Earth).
  • A 2-page demo abstract is required and must be submitted by the deadline.
  • An in-person demonstration is mandatory.

Design-Contest Co-Chairs
